Eliza Ash Boutique takes RDU Baton!

The first time I heard about RDU Baton's initiative to showcase a different person's favorite hidden treasures in and around the RDU area was 3 years ago when I moved back to Raleigh after college. I basically grew up in North Raleigh, but most of my free time was filled with soccer practice, games, and traveling for tournaments (s/o to CASL). When I landed here after college (go ECU pirates!), I knew there was a lot to explore and even more that I had never seen - and let's be honest, I wasn't on my parent's dime anymore so I needed to figure out where to get the daily food specials (thanks for the easy 22 years M&D)! A friend mentioned @rdubaton on Instagram so I followed them and completely fell in love with the concept! For months I referred to RDU Baton as my personal concierge. I found restaurants, hidden waterfalls and lake spots, bars, activities and learned a lot of history about this wonderful city.
Signing up is easy. You visit www.rdubaton.com and fill out the application. There is currently a wait list, but it is worth putting your name down! They'll eventually get back to you and it'll be your turn to pick a date. The week of, they'll send you the credentials and you'll get a full 24 hours to post pictures of your favorite places and things! April 13th was an exciting day for us! Not only was it my (quarter of a century) birthday, but @elizaashboutique got to hold the baton! I'd like to take you through some of our activities that day. The first picture above was taken before work at Fred Fletcher Park near the corner of Glenwood Ave. and Peace St. This park is beautiful. There is so much to see and do including, run/walk the trail; play basketball, tennis, kickball, soccer, and frisbee; enjoy the flowers and greenery that surround the park; and so much more! There is a covered picnic area with a charcoal grill and a swing set for kids, as well. Many people get married at the nearby venue.
My next stop was obviously our beautiful store! We opened in December of 2015 and have enjoyed every single minute of it. We truly have the best customers and I was reminded of that when so many of them followed our journey on @rdubaton that day and commented on how much they love us and encouraged people to stop by! Our team has grown and we're excited to go back to market in about a month and a half to bring you the best of summer collections!
We enjoyed lunch at Over the Falls in the heart of Downtown Wake Forest. I recommend The Tower! The pretzel bun is ah-maz-ing! After fueling up we headed to our favorite spot on the Capital Area Greenway. Did you know it was started in 1972 and currently spans over 112 miles? There are 28 different trails that the trail system hopes to one day connect. This particular trail is the longest at 27.5 miles. Don't forget to stop by and rent your bikes from the guys at The Bike Guy!
Before getting ready for dinner I had to run over to my favorite brunch spot on the weekends - Jose and Sons! Where are my bloody mary fans at? They have the best bloody in town, located at The Depot in the Warehouse District in Downtown Raleigh! Think corn on the cob, pickles, celery, bacon, plus a kick of spice. They even give you a mini Mexican beer on the side to sip on.
Dinner was at Farina Neighborhood Italian Restaurant in Lafayette Village in North Raleigh. This was my first time, and I highly recommend the Cheese Filled Manicotti and Chardonnay!
If you can't already tell...I'm a sucker for outdoor lighting! Person Street Bar is a neighborhood bar that is fun any night of the week. I still consider it a hidden treasure in Downtown Raleigh. This area is one of my favorites and super close to where I live. I also love other establishments in this area like Wine Authorities, Piebird and I can't forget about watching donuts being made at Krispy Kreme! After this stop it was to The Station to watch Kobe Bryant's last game and then home to see my fur baby, Daisy! I hope you got the chance to follow us in real time, but I also had a blast writing this up and remembering how much fun 25 years old has been so far! Until next time...
Jordan Turnbo
